Alegria
12x12
Acrylic on Habotai Silk
Alegria was created via Coloratura, a system of paintbrushes that create music and art simultaneously. Each brush is assigned to a different color and musical note to simulate synesthesia.
Alegria is a departure from my previous works; it is one of my first pieces created via the technique of suminagashi, an ancient form of Japanese water marbling dating back to the 9th century. In suminagashi art, pigment is carefully applied to a bin of water drop by drop, creating beautiful abstract concentric circles that ebb and flow with the movement of the water. Once the design is complete, it can be transferred to fabric or alum-treated paper to permanently preserve it.
