Chromatone - Ways of Listening
The Chromatone series explores the fusion of visual and sonic art inspired by Pauline Oliveros’s philosophy of deep listening. This body of work transforms the act of painting into a musical experience and dissolves the boundaries between visual and sonic forms.
Process
All of the pieces in this series were created with Coloratura, a custom-built musical interface I designed that enables me to create visual art and music simultaneously. Using musical paintbrushes as MIDI controllers, each brushstroke produces a musical note and is assigned to a different color to simulate the experience of synesthesia. By employing a loop pedal,I can build a musical composition note by note, in the same manner that a visual artist builds a visual composition stroke by stroke.
